Let me know other sounds to try tomorrow in the comments section below!
Another Tuesday is here, so that means it is time for an update on my personal goals for the year!
Running has been going really well. I have been following the plan laid out in the app that I am using. I have been using the Nike+ app. The “Coach” function sets out with a plan after you enter the kind of race you would like to train for (5k, half, or full marathon). As of today I am down about 12 pounds from when I started running.
I have also signed up for a local 5k race. It should be a great time, and will be my 2nd race ever. It is a point to point which means you don’t run in a circle. It should be a great time, and I can honestly say that I am looking forward to it.
I also have been working on BB-8. I have gathered a parts list ,according to the parts that a fellow builder has used. I am quickly realizing that this is going to be a very expensive endeavor unless I can come up with some alternatives to his design. I priced out his version of the internal pieces for the ball, and it comes out to a hefty $802. I am thinking that I will get a job over the summer in order to offset the cost of building the droid. I did get a chance yesterday to briefly check out a local store which has a ton of spare parts and is a popular spot with the local R2D2 builders club.
Things are going well on other fronts too. Let me know what you are doing to better yourself this year in the comments section below! Also be sure to check out my Facebook and Twitter. Also follow me on Instagram and Periscope @dadthegeekblog.
So it is #TransformationTuesday and one of the things that I have yet to do is share many of my goals for the year. I know, pretty late with the whole New Years Resolution thing. I am planning on sharing my progress on the following goals during #TransformationTuesday going forward.
The first goal is a bit crazy. I saw The Force Awakens and absolutely loved the new droid BB-8. In fact, I enjoyed him so much that I plan on making a complete 1 to 1 scale replica. The plan is also for this thing to be fully functional. I am looking for it to be of the same caliber as the Astromech (R2D2) droids people have built.
Another is to finish building the modular game board for playing miniature war games at home. I have all of the plywood cut, it is just a matter of coating it all and finishing all of the terrain pieces.
Finish painting my Warhammer 40,000 models is the next goal on the list. I have several different pieces which are in various states of completion. Some are still on the sprue, some are cut and primed, and still others simply need basing.
The other two goals are about completing projects around the house. The first is to redo the backyard, so that we have somewhere to entertain both the kids as well as others this summer. The other is to finish reorganizing the garage, mainly so that we can fit a car back into the garage, and so that I can have a workspace in the garage for all of the other projects already mentioned.
I am sure that I will find other projects throughout the year. Each Tuesday I will share some progress from at least one of the projects that I am working on for #TransformationTuesday.
What projects are you working on this year? Tell me in to comments below. Also be sure to follow me on Twitter and like my page on Facebook. Also I am putting out some content on Tumblr and Instagram @dadthegeekblog.
So it has been a long time since there has been a post. School has flown by, as it is now the end of the first marking period. It has been a blur raising 2 children, 2 dogs and holding a full time teaching position.
I do have to give a little shout out to all of my students who found my blog. Hi guys…now stop reading this and do your homework.
But, I am officially out from under my mountain of grading and am back with the expectation of a new post every week.
I do have plans for moving the blog forward. Stay tuned to my official social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter. Be sure to sign up for Periscope so that you can checkout my live broadcasts. I have done a couple around town and will be doing one this weekend of the RPG campaign I am a part of. You must watch to get the inside information on the campaign and our characters. Hopefully we will be introducing a new character to the mix this weekend. Be looking for the announcement on Twitter.
Now time for an UPDATE: Simon is now 5 months old and is on track to be a Defensive End. His hands are huge me he is easily the length of my torso. For his first Halloween, Simon went as a tiger. The funniest part was that after we put his costume on, any part of his body the costume was touching, Simon would not move. We ended up having more of a tiger sausage than an actual tiger.
Claire is living large. Being a big sister sometime tires her out, but she really enjoys being one of only a few people who can consistently make Simon smile. She also enjoys going to Disney now that we have Annual Passes and she is particularly looking forward to trying out our new Magic Bands this weekend.
Today marks a pretty significant milestone in my life. I am fortunate to have shared 10 years of my life with my best friend, partner in crime, and love of my life.
For those slow on the uptake, I have been in a relationship with my wife Amanda for 10 years today. Although it wasn’t always smooth sailing, she has been my rock. It is crazy that we began as a pair of high school seniors, who didn’t even have acceptance letters to college yet. Now we are married, in careers we love and have 2 children to share this roller coaster of life with.
In the early stages of our relationship, when we were measuring our relationship in weeks and months instead of decades, I mistakenly told her “Happy six months!” because our “anniversary” was on the 6th.
So happy six months to Amanda, thank you for supporting me in all of my geeky half baked ideas. Here’s to many more years and many many more memories!
I am exhausted. Back to school has begun and I was in the middle of my first full week back with students. I decided on this particular night to go to bed early.
Just as my eyes began to feel so heavy that I could never lift them, I was snapped from my bliss by blood-curdling screams. The kind of screams reserved for stranger in the house! Luckily Wife was already in her room and ready for anything. As I groggily walk into Claire’s room I can tell that this is going to be a special case.
Claire has begun having night terrors. Developmentally this is right on track, however it doesn’t make it any less frightening.
What usually happens is that she will let out a couple of yells, then will go back to sleep. Every now and then Claire will have a strong episode, where she wakes up and is inconsolable for about 20-30 minutes. The problem with these strong episodes is that she will work herself up so much that she begins to gag. Very occasionally these gags will make her throw up.
It was clear from her screams that this was going to be one of her stronger episodes.
The worst thing as a parent is the fact that there is not anything that you can do.
I recently posted to a parent blog group called The Dad Network and they gave me the solution that I should completely wake Claire up. I will have to try this next time.
